Dr. Loretta Oduware Ogboro-Okor’s leadership journey began to take shape during her secondary school days at the Federal Government Girls’ College, Benin, where she emerged as Head Girl of the 1994 set. This early distinction set the stage for her future endeavors. Her leadership acumen was further honed during her time at the University of Benin, where she served as Vice President of the UNIBEN Medical Students’ Association in 1999.
After establishing herself in the medical field through advanced trainings and building a strong professional network, Dr. Loretta transitioned into politics. Her foray into circular politics marked a significant turning point, as she successfully mobilized Edo citizens in the diaspora to influence the outcome of the 2020 Edo Governorship election. Her dedication and strategic prowess were again on display during the 2023 Presidential election, where she played a pivotal role in supporting Mr. Peter Obi’s presidential ambition. Notably, Dr. Ogboro-Okor led the policy drafters for the health sector in developing the official manifesto, “It’s Possible. Our Path with Nigerians,” for the Obi-Datti Campaign. This experience showcased her expertise in policy formulation and her commitment to advancing healthcare initiatives.
Although her gubernatorial bid in 2024 was unsuccessful, Dr. Ogboro-Okor demonstrated her resilience and adaptability by aligning herself with Senator Monday Okpebholo, whom she believes possesses the leadership credentials necessary to drive positive change in Edo State. Her endorsement was soon followed by a significant appointment.
In a notable recognition of her leadership abilities and dedication, Governor Monday Okpebholo appointed Dr. Loretta Ogboro-Okor as the Director-General of the Edo State Diaspora Agency. As the pioneer Chief Executive of the agency, Dr. Ogboro-Okor is poised to leverage her experience and network to foster meaningful engagement between the state government and the Edo diaspora community.
